CURRICULUM at CAIS

Today's students are graduating into a world that requires adaptability and meaningful problem-solving skills in order to succeed. CAIS aims to support this idea through community building, rigorous academics, and industry/trade exposure that allows student to get a grip on the work they're preparing for. With project-based learning, relevant technology, and highly experienced instructors, our students focus on building skills that support success in college, careers, and beyond.

Standardized Requirements

The State of Oregon focuses on three major areas to determine high school graduation eligibility: demonstrating proficiency in essential skills, personalized learning requirements, and credit requirements.

  • Proficiency in Essential Skills is described as being able to demonstrate reading and comprehending a variety of text, writing clearly and accurately, and the ability to apply mathematics in a variety of settings. While there are nine total "essential skills" as described by the State of Oregon, these are the three that are high school graduation requirements. The State of Oregon has suspended the Essential Skills assessment through the 2023-24 school year.

  • Personalized Learning Requirements look to curate the diploma for each student and help students plan for their post-high school education and career goals. This includes the Education Plan and Profile, Extended Application, and Career-Related Learning Experiences. These plans primarily serve as support services and road maps to help students adjust to changes throughout high school and prepare them for life following graduation. Students are required, with guidance, to prepare their own agendas. Click here for more information from the State of Oregon regarding Personalized Learning Requirements.

  • Credit Requirements: The table below outlines the credit requirements for the Oregon Diploma.

  • These can come from any of the listed content areas.

  • Total = 24 credits

Curated Studies

Coursework at CAIS is carefully designed to align with Oregon state subject proficiency standards. Alongside annually conducting Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) tests to ensure our students meet/exceed grade-level expectations, we curate our programs to ensure students are gaining the most practice in their desired trade, college, and career opportunities. As we work in conjunction with Google Classroom, teachers also provide differentiated instruction to accommodate 504s and Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and help all students thrive.

CAIS is still transitioning back to in-person learning environments, and we are working hard to ensure our students' comfort in the classroom to help them thrive. We are still looking into re-integrating proficiency testing opportunities, and in the meantime, are gaining some important insight into the ways COVID has changed our students' learning styles and adapting our classroom content to meet their needs.
