EXPANDED OPTIONS

Student in their 11th and 12th grade years have the opportunity to attend college through CAIS and the Expanded Options Program.

Expanded Options is a partnership program between Clackamas Academy of Industrial Sciences (CAIS) and Clackamas Community College (CCC). Our aim is to provide a career-ready, highly-skilled, diverse and adaptable workforce. In order to achieve that goal, we provide opportunities for students to earn Industry Certifications, 1-year Certificates, and/or their Associate’s Degree by the time they graduate high school.

CAIS will pay up to $1500.00/trimester for Expanded Options students. This will cover approximately 12 college credits each trimester. Eligible students may earn up to 72 tuition-free college credits over two years. Students can apply to become enrolled full-time at CCC (at least 36 credits/yr.) given that they meet the requirements listed below.

All credits earned in EO are dual credits, meaning students will earn high school credit and college credit for the same class; however, college credit and high school credit are not equivalent. The following table shows the relationship between college and high school credit.

Students will meet with their counselor prior to the beginning of each term to register for classes and complete the paperwork process. Failure to follow through with this process may result in a student being charged for that term worth of tuition and fees. Any student who plans on keeping their books will purchase them with their own funds. All books purchased by CAIS will need to be returned at the end of each term or a fine will be imposed.

In order to enroll in Expanded Options, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • Be in good standing regarding attendance, academics and behavior.

  • Meet our GPA requirements.

  • Submit a CAIS Expanded Options Application.

  • Submit Placement Test scores from CCC.

  • Meet with their counselor to outline how diploma requirements, including Personalized Learning and Essential Skills, will be met for graduation.

A student may lose their EO privileges if...

  • They fail, do not complete, or withdraw from any courses.

  • They fail to return their books to CAIS at the end of each term.

  • Attendance or behavior is not exemplary, as details in the Student Agreement handout.

If a loss of privilege occurs, students are able to reapply for admission into Expanded Options after one trimester. During the trimester where the loss of privilege occurs, students will be scheduled into full-time course load at CAIS.
