Volunteer Opportunity at Local Latourette Park Renovation DePave Event!

Can You Dig It?

June 9th

Help kickstart a city park renovation!

We’re kicking off a huge improvement to Latourette Park this summer by depaving the upper asphalt area to create more natural opportunities for exploration and play.

We need your help to make this happen! Please join us to rip up the pavement to make way for the new nature play area.

Date: Depaving Saturday, June 9th

Time: 9 am – 1 pm — arrive on time to depave

Place: DC Latourette Park — 11th & Madison Streets, Oregon City

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Depave will provide all the necessary tools and safety gear. Snacks and lunch materials provided by The Latourette Core Team with contributions by Grocery Outlet. Due to the physical nature of asphalt removal, volunteers MUST wear long pants, closed-toed shoes and register on the depave website prior to the event!

For more information and to register as a volunteer please visit Depave at www.depave.org/greenspaces

11th Grade Testing Information

Hello CAIS Juniors,
The State of Oregon mandates that all 11th grade students participate in state testing.  As an 11th grade student, there are five state tests you must complete.
OAKS Science (approximately 2 hours)
SBAC ELA (both CAT and PT) (approximately 4-5 hours)
SBAC Math (both CAT and PT) (approximately 4-5 hours)
CAIS has scheduled the following days and times to attempt to accommodate your CCC schedule.  Please contact Mrs. Flood directly if you have any questions concerning these required state tests.  Students who do not participate and who have not completed an official opt-out form (see district website), will not be allowed to attend CCC classes in the fall of your senior year.  Students on campus who don’t participate may not be allowed to graduate early and will lose off-campus privileges as a senior.  Please find time in your day or evening to take these tests.  Also, we are asking that you take these assessments seriously.  By passing these tests, you will meet your essential skill requirement for graduation.  It is also important to remember that no matter what your personal feeling about standardized tests may be, the success (or lack of success) of our school is measured by the State of Oregon based on the results of these tests.  We aren’t trying to put pressure on our students, we just simply ask that you do your very best on these tests.
Here are the days and times we have available for 11th grade testing:
Daytime test sessions have been scheduled every school day from 12:45-2:45 pm.
Evening test sessions have been scheduled on:
Tuesday, May 22 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Wednesday, May 23 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Wednesday, May 30 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Thursday, May 31 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Again, if you have any questions or need help scheduling a time to come in, please email Mrs. Flood at lindy.flood@orecity.k12.or.us or call the school office 503-785-7860.
Thank you!
Mr. Curtis

Oregon City Interact Now Recruiting!

What is Interact?

CAIS is the home base for the youth-lead community service club Oregon City Interact. Interact is a Rotary sponsored youth organization. You can learn more about Interact and download a registration form here.

Information on the Interact Clubs nationwide can be found here.

Our club meets during lunch once a week and once or twice a week after school. We also meet to complete community projects around Clackamas County and the Portland Metro area.

What does Interact do?

OC Interact is currently working with the Downtown Oregon City Association on a project for Railroad Avenue and with the City on a project with revitalizing a local park. We are always doing campus improvement projects and Rotary projects such as clean-ups, planting trees and blood drives. Club members in previous years at CAIS have earned us recognition for Rotary International and was nominated in the Best of Oregon City awards last year. Students can pick a project and focus on that one specifically or help with everything depending on time and interest.

We are also an important part of Oregon City School district as many of the PTAs have come to rely on our help for events at Candy Lane, Jennings Lodge, Holcomb, John McLoughlin and Redland schools.

What can your student do to get involved?

Our club needs more members to be strong and help the community. There is a place for all skills and strengths in our club and every student is welcome. If you feel your student would be a good fit or if you are want more information please contact me at megan.christopher@orecityk12.or.us. Your student can always come by a lunch meeting in my classroom on Wednesday to check things out as well. Time spent working on Interact projects can go towards a student’s personalized learning credits required for graduation. Beyond teaching students leadership, teamwork and the value of service to others, this opportunity can also open doors for international travel, scholarships and letters of recommendation for college and careers in the future.

Please contact me with any questions and I hope to see your student at a meeting soon!

Thank you,
